2010 Detox Diary Day 7 - First Week Finally Over

It has been such a long week, glad in a way as we are off work for two weeks, so it's been good, but very hard to keep to diet. Had a more relaxed day today, yoghurt and apple for breakfast. Made tuna pasta for lunch, I could really tell the difference from eating healthier stuff, about an hour later I was hungry again, so had another yoghurt and apple. Went out for dinner and had salmon and rice, was hungry again an hour later so had a crisp bread with cream cheese. Will have to stay off the pasta and rice, I feel sluggish and tired for the first time this week. I did eat my recommended 1200 calories today, been between 900-1000 up til now. I find it hard to eat enough healthy food to reach my target without having rice or pasta. Will keep trying, bring on week 2.

2010 Detox Diary Day 6 - Back To Reality

Had to start eating properly today, couldn't take just fruit and vegetables anymore. So had yogurt and an apple for breakfast, for lunch we had stir fried vegetables with a little chicken and rice. Will add in a few extra normal foods a day, so I don't go crazy. Boyfriend was talking about pizzas and burgers again, not helpful! He's struggling with not smoking, we still haven't had any though.

We went to a waterfall today for some exercise, there are 400 steps to climb up. It was exhausting and I was sweating like a pig, but I felt better afterwards, when my legs stopped shaking anyway. Would like to go back again and see if I can manage the steps better next time. Ideally I would like to run up, but I don't think that's going to happen very soon.

Had minestrone soup again for dinner, its so tasty and had some boiled eggs, tomato and a little mayonnaise. Managed the chlorophyll juice today and drinking detox tea as I type. Think it's starting to work now, I feel a much more cleansed!Still the same, couldn't resist weighing myself.

2010 Detox Diary Day 5 - Another Successful Day

Went to the beach today, nice and relaxing, we had lunch (mixed vegetables), it was cloudy but still got burnt! Had a Subway salad before going to the airport to see my brother off, will miss him :( Food shopping is always boring for me, even worse now - bought salad, yoghurt and soup. We had minestrone soup when we got back and then detox tea, tried 2 teabags and it tasted nicer, was a bit weak before.

Trying to plan what to eat next week, we think we can keep this up for a couple more days then will have to start eating properly. Really like soup and will start adding chicken to salads. My boyfriend is talking about having a pizza on Saturday to celebrate a week of eating well, he's really not helping me. Weighed the same as yesterday, will try to wait until Friday to get weighed again and then just do it weekly. Been doing yoga too, I download Yogamazing from Itunes (www.yogamazing.com) they're about 20 minutes each, good for me as I get bored easily. I feel much better, lighter and not as sluggish. Fingers crossed I can keep it up. Still not smoking, was a little tempted last night, but didn't give in.

2010 Detox Diary Day 4 - Still Going Strong

Another good day today. Didn't feel hungry until lunch time, so didn't eat breakfast. Prawn salad again for lunch, must go shopping tomorrow. I've lost 4 pounds already, am very pleased with myself. My brother has been visiting from England and goes home tomorrow, so we went out for dinner, I had mixed vegetables and an oyster omelette. Was very nice, but I am so full. Couldn't face the chlorophyll drink today and the tea is starting to taste worse too. I really don't think they are doing anything for me, but will stick with them and see what happens.

I'm going to look for some new recipes, I'm bored with salad and fruit. I use www.sparkpeople.com to track what I eat, there are some good recipes on there. When I start eating properly, I'll post my calories, carbs, fat etc - I'm not eating enough at the moment and I might be brave enough to post my weight too!

2010 Detox Diary Day 3 - I Survived!!

Nearly didn't make it through today! My boyfriend, who was doing the detox with me, freaked out a bit. He was shouting burgers at me and nearly gave it all up. I tried to change his mind, but we went out and he had a burger (I had salad). He says he'll carry on from tomorrow, I hope so, don't think I can do it alone (especially if he's eating burgers!). This is the point where I would usually say 'ok, forget it I'll have a burger too', but I didn't I resisted. Well done me!!

Had a strawberry and apple smoothie for breakfast, salad for lunch and salad for dinner, as well as snacking on fruit and carrots. I know I'm not going to last long like this, but I just want to get a headstart on my healthy eating. Haven't been craving anything really, apart from a chocolate daydream today.

I've lost 2 pounds, just water weight I'm sure. I know I shouldn't be weighing myself all the time, but it spurs me on. It's getting harder to drink the chlorophyll juice, the tea is fine and I'm drinking loads of water. The detox drinks have had more of a "cleansing" effect on my boyfriend, believe me!!

2010 Detox Diary Day 2 - So Far So Good

Recovered from New Years Eve and ate well yesterday, just some tuna, fruit and vegetables. Find it hard to eat lots of fruit and veg, so I had a banana smoothie and som tam (see pic: spicy Thai papaya salad). Trying to eat little and often and very healthy for a few days to kick start my detox, don't think I could keep it up much longer. I know if I set targets which are too difficult to reach, I'll just give up completely. So I'm just going to try to get through the first few days and see how it goes from there.

Drank my chlorophyll juice (looks and tastes like mushed up leaves) and detox tea (tastes quite nice, minty and a little planty) after dinner. I think I feel lighter and cleaner already, might just be in my mind. Had a headache for a while today, but drinking lots of water helps.

Had fruit for breakfast, then went out with family to show them local temple and had some sushi (the healthiest food I could find). Just had prawn salad and fruit and am now struggling with my detox drinks. Its not that they taste bad, just a bit hard work. No cigarettes for two days, thats the easiest part for me, I wasn't really addicted and didn't smoke much. So even if I fail miserably with the detox, I know I can stop smoking.

2010 Detox Diary Day One - Not At All Prepared

Had all the best intentions to start detox on January 1st 2010, woke up too early, feeling too hungover. Thought this might happen, January 2nd definitely sounds more detoxifically (my first newly invented word of the year??) welcoming at the moment.

Don't think I could stomach the detox tea or chlorophyll juice yet, a full English breakfast sounds much more appealing. No no no, I am determined to last at least more than one day and beat last years incredible failure. Every year one of my New Years resolutions is to lose weight, trying different diets and failing spectacularly. The problem is I get to point and just think forget it and eat a pizza. But this year, I've just turned 30 and am aiming for healthy rather than just lose a bit of weight.

After every Christmas and New Year, I feel weighed down and sick with all the extra food and drink I've consumed. I feel like I've got 30 years worth of rubbish inside me today. So the idea is drink these detox drinks, eat healthy and stop smoking and drinking (at least for a while on that last one). I would normally include exercise in my list of unlikely to happen resolutions, but I won't go overboard.

Right now at 8.15am on January 1st, I feel I can definitely stop smoking, I never want to drink alcohol again (but I'm sure I'll get over that soon enough) and I want to eat healthy food for the rest of my life. I feel a bit better now and very positive about this detox, we'll see how long that lasts. I wonder how many people around the world are having the same thoughts.

So here's a bit about me:

Name: Lucy
Age: 30 (and a few days, still trying to get used to this!)
Nationality: English, now live in Thailand with boyfriend of 8 years
